Germany is in the middle of an election campaign, and the latest forecasts on the distribution of votes are published almost daily. But does demoscopy also capture the diffuse mood of the population and the often unconscious motivations that tip the scales when it comes to voting?

This week, the rheingold Institute is publishing a depth psychological election studywhich makes the complex and often surprising considerations in this special situation understandable. Since 2002, we have regularly placed 50 voters on the couch before federal elections and analyzed both the overt and hidden motives that lead to voting decisions. The impact of the candidates and their party campaigns are also examined psychologically.
